Guides

This guide walks through building a LinkedIn outreach workflow from nothing: who to contact, how to build the list, what to send and how to handle replies. Read Is LinkedIn automation safe? first. Automating sending is against LinkedIn's rules, and every step below assumes you have weighed that.

Step 1: Decide who you are writing to

Write down the role, industry and company size you sell to, and one reason they would care now. A list built without this produces messages nobody wants, and automation only makes that faster.

Step 2: Build the list

Lists usually come from a LinkedIn Sales Navigator search, a CSV you already hold, or a direct search. Whatever the source, clean it before you use it:

  • Remove duplicates, including people who appear under two spellings.
  • Remove current customers, partners and people you already speak to.
  • Check that each person fits the profile you wrote in step 1.
  • If you plan to email as well, validate the addresses before sending.

Step 3: Write the sequence

A sequence is a short series of steps with waits between them. A simple one:

An example sequence. The timings are a starting point, not a benchmark.
StepWhenWhat
Connection requestDay 0A short note, or none. See the limit on notes below.
First messageAfter they acceptThank them, say why you connected, ask one easy question.
Follow-upA few days laterAdd one useful thing: a short example, a link, a relevant observation.
Last messageAbout a week laterSay you will stop here and leave the door open.

Notes on connection requests are limited. According to LinkedIn's help page, Personalize invitations to connect, a member without Premium can add a personal note to up to three connection requests a month, each up to 200 characters. Premium members can add one to every request. Most requests from a free account therefore go out without a note, so the first message after acceptance does most of the work.

If your tool supports it, test two versions of a message against each other, changing one thing at a time, so you learn what works with your audience.

Step 4: Set conservative limits

LinkedIn does not publish a weekly limit for connection requests, and the figures people quote are unofficial. Start well below them, raise volume slowly, and stop if LinkedIn warns you. Do not try to work around a limit.

Step 5: Handle replies like a person

Replies are where the value is. Answer quickly and in your own voice. AI can draft replies or answer common questions, but someone should be able to take over the conversation at any point, and anything about price, terms or a commitment should be a person's decision.

Step 6: Measure what matters

  • Acceptance rate: how many requests are accepted.
  • Reply rate: how many accepted contacts answer.
  • Meetings booked: the number that pays for everything else.
  • Account warnings: any restriction notice is a signal to slow down.

Compare these against your own earlier results rather than other companies' numbers. Published benchmarks rarely say who was measured or how.

Where GrowPython fits

GrowPython brings the steps above into one tool: it imports leads from Sales Navigator, CSV files and direct searches, helps with filtering and duplicate removal, builds multi-step sequences with delays and message testing, scales sending volume automatically, and offers an AI assistant trained on your own documents that hands over to you whenever you reply yourself.

Questions

How many connection requests can I send a day?
LinkedIn does not publish a limit. Reports of about 100 a week are unofficial, so start lower and watch for warnings.
Do I need to write a note with every request?
No. Without Premium, LinkedIn allows a note on only a few requests a month. A good first message after acceptance matters more.
Is automating LinkedIn outreach allowed?
LinkedIn's User Agreement prohibits unauthorized automated methods for adding contacts and sending messages. See the safety guide for the details.
